This Privacy Policy explains what information RootedByEl (“RootedByEl,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you use rootedbyel.com(the “Site”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. RootedByEl is a plant shop and landscape-design studio based in Providence, Rhode Island, serving Rhode Island and the wider New England area.

Who we are

RootedByEl operates this Site to sell plants, take landscape-design quote requests, publish a journal, and send occasional updates to people who ask for them. If you have any question about this policy or your information, contact us at Ellygsoares@gmail.com.

What information we collect

We only collect information you give us or that is needed to run the Site. Specifically:

When you place an order

To fulfill a plant order we collect your name, email address, phone number, your chosen delivery method (local delivery or pickup), your delivery address (for delivery orders), and the items in your order.

Payments are processed by Stripe.When you check out you are taken to Stripe’s secure, hosted checkout to enter your card details. Your full card number is entered directly with Stripe and is handled by Stripe under its own terms and privacy policy — RootedByEl never receives or stores your full card number. We receive confirmation of payment and basic order details from Stripe so we can prepare and deliver your order.

When you request a landscape-design quote

Our contact / quote form collects your name, email address, and message, and (optionally) your phone number, town, project type, project size, and light conditions, so we can respond to your request.

When you subscribe to updates

If you sign up for our newsletter we collect your email address so we can send you occasional updates. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe option, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.

Site owner accounts

The Site includes a private login used by the RootedByEl owner/administrator to manage products, orders, quotes, subscribers, and journal posts. This is not a general customer account. Authentication is provided by Supabase and uses a secure session cookie.

Reading the journal

You can browse the Site and read the journal without giving us any personal information.

Why we use your information

• To process, prepare, and deliver your orders and send order confirmations.
• To respond to your quote requests and messages.
• To send newsletter updates when you have asked to receive them.
• To operate, secure, and improve the Site.
• To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Site, and only as needed for them to perform their service:

• Stripe— payment processing at checkout.
• Supabase— hosting our database (orders, quote requests, subscribers, journal) and owner authentication.
• Resend— sending transactional emails such as order confirmations.
• Vercel— website hosting and delivery.
• Google Fonts— the Site’s fonts are served by Google, which may receive your IP address as part of loading them.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of RootedByEl or others.

Cookies

RootedByEl uses essential cookies only. We do not use advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies on this Site. The only cookies set are:

• A secure session cookie used for the owner/administrator login (set by Supabase).
• Cookies set by Stripe on its own hosted checkout pages when you make a payment, which Stripe uses for security and fraud prevention.

Because we use only essential cookies, there is no advertising or analytics tracking to opt out of on this Site.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as needed to fulfill the order and to meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements. We keep quote requests for as long as needed to respond and follow up. We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see your rights below), subject to records we are legally required to keep.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to opt out of marketing emails, and to ask us not to sell or share your information (we do not sell or share it for advertising). To exercise any of these rights, email us at Ellygsoares@gmail.com and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are: performing our contract with you (to fulfill orders and respond to requests), your consent (for the newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (to operate and secure the Site).

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
