Watering without the guesswork

The single most common way to kill a houseplant is overwatering. It feels caring, but soggy roots suffocate and rot far faster than dry ones ever do.

Forget the weekly schedule. Instead, push a finger two knuckles into the soil. If it comes out with soil clinging to it, wait. If it's dry, water thoroughly until it runs from the base, then empty the saucer.

Light drives thirst. A plant in a bright window drinks faster than the same plant in a dim corner, and everything slows down in winter. Read the soil, not the calendar, and most of your plants will outlive your doubts.
